it's the little things

Friday, December 4th, 2009 at 11:40am

The other night, my husband called me into our room to show me that the top drawer on my nightstand farts when you close it. It is a very realistic fart sound. We both giggled for several minutes. We giggle every time we hear it. It's the little things in life!Have a great weekend everybody!!

My To Do List:

Friday, December 4th, 2009 at 09:20am

Here are some of the things on my To Do List: Update the histories page with the most recent review room and matching room information. Make a new When post for the SN list. Make a new When post for NSN Referrals. Do a Projections post to try to project the next cut off dates. Finish going through all of [...]

half baked

Friday, December 4th, 2009 at 09:09am

I confess that I click over Trish's place all the time, just so I can look at the baby ticker. Tomorrow, it tells me, we'll be at 21 weeks, which seems absolutely unbelievable. I'm feeling ridiculously optimistic and we're even starting to talk about possible names. Since you all had such great ideas for a blog pseudonym, I'm thinking that I'd throw the question of[...]

Grateful

Friday, December 4th, 2009 at 09:00am

I've been thinking back to this time last year, more than this time 2 years ago. I was, consumed, last year, with remembering the year before. In that terrible year between Gabe's birth and the first anniversary of his death, I spent a lot of time thinking about what I had done at that time, the year before.Remembering, framing and re framing memories. Trying to come to terms with what h[...]

"Milk" in sign language

Friday, December 4th, 2009 at 09:00am

(Spring and Summer, 2001) -- Our adoption counselor, Sheryl, comes to our home several times during the next six months as part of her follow-up with us. Other post-placement observations take place in the agency's office, where we gather with fellow adoptive parents and their babies. We pack up Tessa a few Saturday mornings through the summer to attend these parenting classes. They are all ve[...]

166th Friday Blog Roundup

Friday, December 4th, 2009 at 07:20am

This is what someone needs to create: an image generator where the person can describe the image in bits and pieces to the computer program and it can sketch out the idea.  Wouldn’t that be an amazing program?  Doesn’t anyone want to get on making that? I am deep in the idea of the next blog [...]

O Christmas Tree, how protected are thy branches?

Friday, December 4th, 2009 at 06:22am

Time will tell… Behold! The tree! All lit up, so pretty. As you can see, we have no “theme”.  It’s a free-for-all “theme” in this house, I’m not organized enough to have a beautifully done theme.  I’ve got ornaments on there that have been around for 32 years, we’ve got Simpsons character ornaments[...]

Icicles and snow and trees and this ‘n’ that

Friday, December 4th, 2009 at 03:47am

Our snow on top of melting snow and ice produced a phalanx of icicles hanging down from the roof beside the kitchen.  I liked the repeating vertical lines behind and in front of the fluffy snow-draped firs. For your viewing pleasure:  The Big Picture once again does a Hubble Space Telescope Advent Calendar for December; go enjoy the purty pictures and remember to check back each [...]

Just going on

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009 at 11:14pm

Okay, yeah, Nanoblopo was, for me, an epic fail.   I've been having a rough time.  3 friends just had their babies.  2 of them their second one.   And I'm happy for them--and I'm really not happy for them and I don't want to be around them or anywhere near them. We should have been parents by now.&#0160[...]

My Daughter's Imaginary Friend is an Asshole

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009 at 07:10pm

So Elby has an imaginary friend named Angeli (not 100% sure on the spelling) who, I don't mind saying, is a total bitch. Oh she started out nice, sucked my daughter in with her enthusiasm for playing princess or riding in the car. She kept my daughter company at Trader Joe's, sitting in the basket while Elbs sat in the front turning once in awhile to better hear her ice cream flavor requ[...]

First Prenatal Visit/9 Week Ultrasound

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009 at 06:00pm

Still two babies, with two heartbeats at 174 and 176 bpm, both measuring at 9 weeks exactly. One even waved at us! The nurse practitioner said that would be our wild child. :)This whole thing is still surreal to me. Walking into the OB's office, full of pregnant women was not painful. I thought it might be, but it was really ok. What was NOT ok was the HOUR wait, and let's just make that[...]

Oh hello possibilities, nice to see you again

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009 at 03:42pm

Quick post as someone is doing some growth spurt action and it is all hands on deck. It has been a while since nice and rare moments of goodness have found their way into our day to day. I thought I would just quietly whisper that in the last 24 hours three jobby possibilities have popped up. Two within the last hour. Validation is nice. And W would like to announce that he can now get from poi[...]

Bedrest in the middle ages

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009 at 02:15pm

So, I've been on bedrest for a week and a half now. And, honestly, it hasn't been awful, although I can't imagine how people do it for months! Then today happened. We lost our power around 6:30 this morning. That meant no TV, no phones (can't find the non-cordless phone), and no internet. Plus, because of the high BP induced headache, it was putting a little too much strai[...]

More O chronicles.

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009 at 09:46am

It’s funny how little I use this blog to actually RECORD the stuff O is doing right now. Part of it is that I’m having an AWESOME time just observing him. And sometimes I wonder if putting O down on paper will make what he does less… well… magical. Part of it is the fact that, given I have a data point of ONE, I don’t know what’s his per[...]

Christmas Nibbles

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009 at 09:00am

Alright, I'm planning my Christmas baking, and more or less, I realized that all the baking I do is "Canadian". Butter tarts, Nanaimo Bars, and possibly shortbread (which is Scottish, but whatever).Which makes me wonder.Umm, what do you do for Christmas baking, in your part of the world?C'mon, fess up, are you a fruit cake fanatic?

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009 at 08:09am

On Intuitive Tuesdays I select a card and give you my interpretation of it. On Thursday I select one reader's comment and pull an additional card.I encourage you to read about the additional card I pulled this week and see how it applies to your life. Anything that is brought to one of us is a message for all of us.This week's Intuitive Tuesday card was the Five of Swords (reversed), whi[...]

Let's (Not) Talk About Hair

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009 at 07:23am

We are at a Christmas activity night for children. Puppy busies himself making a card while Firefly runs in circles nearby. The white woman next to me leans over conspiratorially and points at Firefly. "Her hair is that cute stage now, but just wait until she gets older. Then you have to deal with all the straighteners. Actually, it's the bill for the straightener that's the proble[...]

Leaving my cocoon....

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009 at 07:22am

The past 4 days have been wonderful. After my girls arrived on Sunday, I've been staying here at the hospital with them, while Aaron went to work and took care of Hulk. It's kind of crazy, because with Hulk, I couldn't have been separated from Aaron for even an hour.... this time? I'm totally in control. I've been using the nursing staff when I need help, but I'd rath[...]

Crazy! Eight!

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009 at 05:58am

Eight months!  How in the world have 8 months gone by and me not notice?  What’s going on here? Well, let’s see what the boys have been up to in the past month, shall we? Cooper is crawling at a more normal speed now and enjoying the new scenery he passes.  Sometimes he stops to smell the proverbial roses: Hmm, what's this? Spencer pulls up on any and eve[...]

The encroaching dark

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009 at 08:11pm

The sun rose at 9:49 in the morning, and will set at 3:51 p.m., just a few more minutes.  We had a visit from the Pineapple Express yesterday; it is Alaska’s answer to the Polar Express.  Where the Polar Express is a blast of frigid Arctic air that swirls down into the Midwest following a huge dip in the jet stream, the Pineapple Express is a blast of warm ai[...]

Maybe a little more than some of you wanted to know…

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009 at 06:21pm

Manly and I couldn’t hold out for the whole six-weeks postpartum no-sex thing.  Sorry, but that was just not happening. We didn’t use birth control — never even thought of it until afterwards.  And even if I had thought about it beforehand, there is nothing in the house. When I realized it, I had a nanosecond of panic — dear god, what if I get preg[...]

commuting

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009 at 05:55pm

Driving home in the dark, the radio on, the baby asleep in the back seat is when I think about, well, things. And what I was thinking about tonight was this: I've done a lot of really stupid things in my life. And (in what would be a large and substantially, but not completely overlapping circle in a Venn diagram) I've done a lot of things that I'm very sorry I've done. And[...]

nothing to say

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009 at 09:29am

I find myself lately unable to put down coherent thoughts for this blog. Sometimes I feel the drive to post, but I just can't post about anything. Often I start writing something and don't like how it sounds, so I quit. Everything is fine, but my mind has been jumbled lately. I think some of it has to do with the fact that I haven't exercised regularly in quite a while other tha[...]

OB Jackpot!

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009 at 09:29am

Yeah, so I had my first meeting with the actual OB, and she's a total badass. I need to come up with a clever nickname for her, but I'm afraid I'm creatively tapped at the moment. I had assumed that this would just be a quick issue-check appointment, since I was having that issue with the abdomen pain for which the appointment was made, but it was actually a first-appointment-with[...]

Under the microscope

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009 at 09:00am

(April, 2001) -- Lutheran Family Services has to keep an eye on us monthly for the next half year. Our first meeting is in our home. Sheryl, our adoption counselor and conductor of our homestudy, visits when Tessa is 5 days old, just to make sure we’re doing OK. We clean up the house thinking this time she really might bring a white glove. But this meeting is no different from when other frien[...]

Update on my boys * With update

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009 at 04:46am

Doudou is doing so much better after seeing the pediatrician. He still has some reflux but he is not screaming in pain, just your usual I have some wind, I am hungry or I am tired cry. He is such a happy boy, he makes me smile constantly. Except in the early morning when I want to sleep but he is not so keen on sleeping. I feel like I can go out comfortably now knowing that he will not have a

Wishing4One

I married the man that would become my best friend in 1996. We have been trying since 1998 to have a child, none to report yet. We started our first ART procedure, IVF in 2006. We have done 3 IVF trials that included 7 embryo transfers, both fresh and frozen. My blog was started as my IVF journey, but it’s outta control- so along with my IVF stories expect to read almost anything. Oh yeah, I live in Cairo, Egypt too, and often write about my unique experiences in this cRaZy, fun, but unpredictable city. Be sure to visit me as you never know what you’ll find! But I promise you will want to visit more than once.
